The fact is: If you play soccer with a cold, you risk a lot.

Of course, that doesn't mean that you should take a break with every small cough or that soccer cleats Leave it in the cellar as soon as you sneeze. If you have a harmless cold, continuing to train may have no serious consequences if you feel fit.

However, there are also symptoms that you shouldn't kick the ball under any circumstances: swollen lymph nodes, sore throat and limbs, purulent sputum, elevated temperature, or fever. For example, anyone who wants to play soccer with these symptoms has two stress factors acting on their body — the infection itself and the additional effort from sport.

SHOULD YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO FUNCTION?

We too have already played soccer in a physical situation in which we would have had to sit out. In doing so, we certainly do not want to trivialize; rather, we want to express our lack of understanding of our former “I”. It was stupid and lucky. But why is that so?

WHY DO WE RISK OUR HEALTH EVEN FOR A TRIVIAL SOCCER GAME?

Football is a team sport and, of course, you fight with your conscience, especially in the threshold situation of an illness. You don't want to let the team down, after all, everyone in the team is important. This leads us directly to social pressure, which applies across the board and not only in soccer.

Whether at work or in sport — we must function. Anyone who shows weakness through illness is stigmatized as indestructible. This is another reason why we use medication and try to get “fit” for the working day or the district league game. Hopeless.

However, you are by no means strong if you bring yourself into the game full of drugs for your team and want to help. You are strong when you pay attention to your body, take the warning signs seriously and prefer to suspend training so that you can play full throttle soccer for the rest of the season. “Miki” Fehér should be a cautionary example for all of us.
