It is this popping sound that will probably stay in the memory of a cruciate ligament patient forever. After the sound comes pain. The sport of soccer, with all its landings, stops and abrupt turning movements, often puts the knee joint to a severe test.
If the load is too great, the cruciate ligament often ruptures. In these cases, surgery for soccer players is usually unavoidable — especially if they are athletes. This is followed by a difficult period: physically and mentally.
With Professor Dr. Stefan Hinterwimmer (OrthoPlus Munich), B42 has won over an absolute expert in the field of cruciate ligament injuries in soccer within its medical network.
With his help, a number of top athletes and professional soccer players have made it back on the pitch.
The anterior cruciate ligament is the structure for stabilizing the knee against displacement and twisting. In the case of a crack, that is exactly what happens: simultaneous displacement and twisting. Usually without direct influence from the opponent when landing after a jump or a sudden change of direction.
The players usually describe the moment of the injury as the knee joint jumping out and back in again for a short time, accompanied by a brief sharp pain.
For both amateur and professional players, this injury initially means surgery — including a break of several months. A conservative return to soccer, i.e. without surgery, is ruled out in most cases. According to available data, the average downtime in professional soccer is eight months.
Since amateur rehab can never be worked as intensively as in professional rehab, the downtime is correspondingly longer, usually ten to twelve months. Serious consideration must always be given to ending one's career when injuries accumulate and joint health is threatened in the long term as a result of joint injuries. Fortunately, however, this is rarely the case.
We are the game changer — B42
After every cruciate ligament injury In soccer, on the one hand, this must be healed and, on the other hand, the gap in terms of coordination, strength, endurance and ultimately competition experience must be made up for.
The healing of an injury or surgery obeys the rules of biology and can only be influenced slightly so far. coordination, strength, stamina And competition training, in turn, are the domains of rehabilitation.
And this is where the wheat is quickly separated from the chaff: the better the rehab, the more differentiated the post-treatment concept, the more experienced the rehabilitation team, the faster and more sustainably this backlog can be made up.
Due to insurance regulations, there are strict limits to the intensity of rehab that can be done directly with a therapist. Prescription volumes are limited and normal professional involvement is dominant.
App-based training is a relatively new and at the same time ideal component in an amateur athlete's rehab to close the gaps mentioned above. It is always important that the programs are developed by experienced and competition-proven therapists, sports scientists, trainers and doctors and are as differentiated as possible, i.e. every athlete must be picked up and developed at a specific point. B42 meets these requirements in an excellent way.
I came into contact with B42 almost simultaneously through two independent channels. On the one hand about my friend Hansi Friedl from the training and therapy center of the same name in Edling near Wasserburg, on the other hand about a highly valued medical colleague from Markgröningen, PD Dr. Philipp Schuster. They both presented the B42 to me from their respective values and were able to answer critical questions very well spontaneously. With that, it wasn't difficult to convince me or get involved.
It is currently the case that we are continuing to work on the structure and content of the app by presenting this form or addition in particular to the large number of ambitious recreational soccer players after knee surgery, which we see regularly. Their feedback then flows back to the actual initiators. It is therefore a process that we are constantly and consistently developing.
I don't think or hope that online rehab alone will be the future. I am convinced that direct contact with the therapist is necessary, especially in the early and late stages of rehab. The long middle phase of rehab and regularity in training will become even more absolute domains of Online rehab concepts Be like B42.
