According to current experts, strains stretch the smallest functional units of the muscle beyond normal limits. Simple strains are definitely the least problematic of all muscle injuries in soccer — but they should not be underestimated.
As an athlete, you recognize a strain quite quickly: A wrong movement, a stinging pain. The surrounding muscles tense up ad hoc and the pulled muscle becomes as hard as concrete: a protective reflex. Before the injury worsens further, in most cases it should be over immediately.
In their entirety, muscle injuries account for over a third of all soccer accidents. During the game, the risk of injury is even six times higher. Almost all muscle injuries occur without contact with another player — fouls are only responsible for two percent. 16 percent of muscle injuries are recurrences. This repeat injury results in 30 percent longer downtime than an initial injury. This means: Once you have picked up steam, you can no longer get off this injury carousel.
Amateurs often have an even harder time doing this. They usually do not have a network of doctors and therapists who work every day to get out of this carousel. With effort, need and much more timing, you can get a prescription from the family doctor — there are usually 6 therapy sessions on it. 6 times 20-30 minutes, the muscle should then be relaxed and worked on during therapy, the body's statics should be checked and improved and the control of the muscles should be optimized. What may still be possible with a slight hardening becomes a borderline when there are more serious injury mechanisms — at least for soccer players.
