Older aspiring soccer coaches may still be familiar with these terms: coach C-grassroots soccer and trainer C-competitive soccer. But these terms have had their day. Since 2015, the German Football Association has restructured its coaching licenses. Since then, people have been talking about Trainer C license and Trainer B license or UEFA Grassroots or UEFA B-level.

Just a minute! Will one or the other say:

B license?

It's happened before. That's right. While the two named C-trainers were formerly at a license level, differentiation is now being made. It is also new that the C license is no longer a requirement for filing the higher-rated B license. Instead, course candidates must now pass a uniform aptitude test nationwide in order to take part in a B-trainer training course. Only then can the big coaching career be embarked on.

LINK BETWEEN A AND B LICENSE

Of course, in order to get off to a good start, the training does not end when you take the B-license. Rather, this is just the beginning. Because: Without the new B-license, nothing goes up. The next level above is called the DFB Elite Youth License. Only then can interested parties apply for the A-license.

The elite youth license from the German Football Association serves as a link between B and A license. While the regional associations still manage the registrations and carry out the courses and exams at the lower license levels, the umbrella organization is responsible for the elite youth license and all trainer licenses classified above it. Registration is therefore made directly with the DFB.

Before this and therefore admission to training can take place, interested parties must submit a written application to the German Football Association and the official training center.

The address in question is:

ELITE YOUTH LICENSE COMPARATIVELY EXTENSIVE

Once approved, it's time to buffalo. The cost of obtaining the DFB Elite Youth License is set at 160 learning units. Each learning unit is 45 minutes long. This makes the DFB Elite Youth License the most comprehensive of all coaching licenses. By way of comparison, the B license is 140 units, the C and A license are 120 units each.

The content focuses on group and individual tactics. After the learning part, the exam must be taken. At all levels of training, this includes an exam, an oral examination, a teaching sample, a free presentation, which usually deals with reflecting on one's own teaching sample, and a practical test of one's own soccer skills.

REPEATING THE EXAM

50 percent of the overall grade consists of sample and free presentation. The former is weighted to four fifths, the free presentation to a fifth. One third of the remaining 50 percent of the overall grade consists of the oral examination, the practice test and the written exam.

The top score is 15 points. The graduate needs at least five points in each sub-area to pass the course. The test can be repeated once

become, after six months at the earliest. Unless the Audit Committee decides otherwise, the examination must be retaken in all parts. If the examinee does not pass the examination, the entire training must be completed again, which is only possible after two years at the earliest. The completed training is valid for three years

CONTINUING EDUCATION OF THE DFB ELITE YOUTH LICENSE EVERY THREE YEARS

In order to renew the license, an application must be submitted in due time. This should be done in the last six months of the period of validity. Further training is also required. A training course comprises around 20 learning units.

The costs for the entire training amount to around 650 euros. However, according to DFB information, these can differ at any time. With the received DFB Elite Youth license, teams in the B-Junior Bundesliga can be supervised. It is also possible to work in an association's junior research center or in an association base. If it all sounds a bit dry, don't worry! A world coach hasn't just come out of the sky yet.

And the idea of possibly being on the big soccer stage at some point is motivation enough, isn't it?
